Product Spotlight: Plate Shelves

If you have already decluttered, then read on because today we are going to look at a product that will give you a little extra space - plate shelves.

What is it?
A plate shelf is a small free standing shelf that can typically fit inside of a cabinet. There are shelves with legs and shelves with bases and shelves for corners. They come in multiple finishes and sizes as well.

Why is it helpful?

A plate shelf provides an extra level, or shelf as it were, for your spaces. You may have a small space and need to use all the height in your cabinets to fit your plates and bowls. Plate shelves are also helpful for keeping stacks from getting too tall (see photo above). This is a great universal product that can be used throughout the house: bathrooms, home offices, play rooms, bedrooms, closets, and, of course, kitchens. The options are almost limitless.

What are the down sides?

Depending on what kind of plate shelf you use, it may not work in some spaces. If you get a plate shelf that has legs instead of a flat base, you will not be able to use it on wire shelving as in a standard pantry or standard closet.

Does everyone need it?

No. As with every organizing product, be sure to declutter your spaces first. If you do not need an added shelf space, you do not need this product. Also, shelves are not the best solution for every space. Depending on the items you are organizing, you may do better with a bin.
